Avocado Dye Workshop

  • Wahe Guru Yoga 48 East 26th Street Chicago, IL, 60616 United States (map)

Come join Joanna Aloysia and Kelly McKaig for a creative Saturday afternoon dyeing fabric at Wahe Guru Yoga Chicago in Bronzeville.

We’ll teach you how to make the natural dye bath and you get to dye and take home a Habotai silk scarf (30" x 30"). There will be an additional fold resist technique tutorial. Guacamole and non-alcoholic beverages provided.

If you choose to bring your additional fabric or your own garment, we ask that it is white/un-dyed and that you bring the item clean (preferably scoured). Keep in mind the fabric must be non-synthetic, so you may bring silk, wool, cotton, or linen. This natural dye will not adhere to synthetic fibers.

What you walk away with:

  • your personally dyed silk scarf

  • an avocado dye bath recipe

What to bring:

  • Your curiosity

  • Optional: a liquid container to transport your dyed fabric in (ex: an old tupperware, a leftover takeout container, a canning jar). This will allow you to soak your fabric longer for a deeper color.

  • Optional: an additional garment to dye (ex: cotton t-shirt, tank top, etc.)

Let’s see what magic can happen!

Cost:
$45
